Sustainable travel in india
The owners, Debjit & Namrata

When I had the opportunity to collaborate and experience a stay at Kila Dalijoda, little did I know what to expect—thankfully, Shivya and her course The Shooting Star Academy guided me toward this extraordinary adventure.

So, when I sat down at my computer to recount my experience at Kila Dalijoda, one question came to mind: where should I begin?

Kila Dalijoda is not just a destination; it's an immersion into a living heritage that spans centuries—a cultural treasure in India. This palace, majestically erected in 1931 by the great-grandfather of the current owner, is far more than an ancient residence. It’s a place where every stone whispers tales of glory and mystery, and where Debjit and Namrata, the guardians of this sacred site, share their story with a passion that warms the heart.

Abandoned for nearly thirty years, this architectural gem could have faded into oblivion, but this devoted couple decided to bring it back to life, refusing to let the family legacy dissolve into the mists of time. And what a journey it has been to reach this point!

Today, Kila Dalijoda welcomes its guests with a grace and devotion that transcend the mere stay. Every detail, from the warm welcome to the delightful cuisine, to the meticulously crafted activities, breathes the commitment and love with which Namrata and Debjit have shaped their vision.

Here, you’re not just offered a stay in an exceptional place, but an opportunity to dive into a unique experience where history and hospitality blend to create unforgettable memories.

Experiencing Kila Dalijoda goes far beyond a simple retreat in an enchanting setting—though, let’s be honest, the suites are fit for royalty!

It’s a true journey through time, an immersion into the captivating stories of Debjit and Namrata that transport you to the origins of what still shapes the life of this region today. The palace is just a gateway to a world where family history merges with that of the territory, where local communities and their traditions welcome you with rare authenticity.

During my travels in India, I always seek to understand the soul of the places I visit, to feel the daily challenges of its inhabitants, to immerse myself in their culture. However, this quest must be carried out with profound humility. It’s not about immersing oneself with an external, often overly curious or even domineering gaze, but rather about entering into relationships with respect and kindness.

This is not an easy task for a foreigner, but Debjit offered me this precious opportunity by guiding me through the immersive program he carefully designed alongside Namrata. This program is not just a window into the past; it’s an invitation to live authentic experiences that will remain etched in your memory.

At Kila Dalijoda, the activities offered are much more than mere entertainment; they are an invitation to explore the cultural and natural riches of the region, to forge connections with its inhabitants, and to immerse yourself in a world where every gesture, every ritual, resonates with centuries of history.

One of the most poignant experiences is visiting the Sabar tribes, an indigenous people living in harmony with nature, in an isolated village deep within the jungle. Accessible only on foot after a trek through dense forest, this encounter is a true immersion into an ancestral way of life. The Sabar, known for their deep respect for elephants, will welcome you, sharing unique way of life.

It’s a rare opportunity to observe and understand their symbiotic relationship with the environment—a shining example of respectful coexistence between humans and nature.

For those who enjoy cycling and architectural discovery, a bike ride through the surrounding villages is a must. Cycling along the paths takes you to explore the region’s vernacular architecture, where every house tells a story, and every detail is a testament to the local culture. You’ll cross picturesque landscapes, meet artisans at work, and discover the traditions that have shaped these communities over the centuries. The Munda villages, with their mud and straw houses, are a perfect example of this architecture in harmony with its environment.

Art enthusiasts will find delight in the traditional painting workshops offered at Kila Dalijoda. You’ll have the opportunity to visit a brass, and a weavers’ village, where residents continue to practice weaving techniques passed down through generations. Traditional painting sessions will immerse you in the motifs and symbols that have marked the region’s artistic history, allowing you to leave not only with a material souvenir but also with a deeper understanding of local craftsmanship.

For those seeking a moment of relaxation, Kila Dalijoda offers the perfect setting to recharge. Yoga sessions held in the palace gardens invite you to reconnect with yourself, surrounded by lush nature. If you prefer a more contemplative activity, a boat ride around the lotus-filled ponds offers a moment of pure serenity. This experience is a true antidote to stress, where time seems to stand still, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in the peaceful beauty of your surroundings.

Kila Dalijoda is not just a place to visit; it’s an immersive experience that plunges you into the history and culture of an authentic region of India. It’s a journey to the heart of a family heritage, where every activity, every encounter, is an opportunity to connect with the past while creating unforgettable memories.

This palace, lovingly and respectfully restored by Debjit and Namrata, offers not only the comfort of a royal retreat but also the unique chance to deeply connect with a region and its people. You will leave Kila Dalijoda enriched, not only by the stories and knowledge you have discovered there but also by the serenity and wisdom that this place inspires.

Crossing the threshold of Kila Dalijoda, you’re not just entering a palace; you’re entering a world where time stops, where history and modernity meet, and where every moment is an invitation to explore, to learn, and to be touched by the timeless beauty of this unique place. It’s a true ode to sustainable tourism, an immersion into Indian culture, and a rare opportunity to experience something authentic, far from the beaten path.
