"see as many sunriseS as you can"
Vic Love
Father, ex-architect and sailor
Describe yourself and your project/style of travelling in a few sentences.
I am travelling on a 5,7m wooden sailboat from England to wherever I get to - maybe Odessa (Ukraine). If there is wind, I use the wind; if there is not I use the engine which uses just one litre diesel per hour.
What drives you to live this kind of life?
I gave up working and I thought “lets see how far i can get” with my little boat.
That's it, really.
And I enjoy being out there on the ocean, just me and the sea - its wonderful.
What do you think of the way we live on this planet ?
I think there are far too many people on the planet. I don't know how you change that - but it has to change. There is just too many of us and we can't go on.
The idea of economy of growth is insane and completely unsupportable and still people talk about growth of being the aim of economy - it's just crazy.
How would you describe success / happiness ?
I think happiness should be the goal. So you're successful if you're happy.
I think a lot of people chase money and you need a bit of money, but it shouldn't be what you strive for.
Happiness is being comfortable with yourself and enjoying other people.
What do you think travelling can give you ?
Travelling can just show you how all people are the same everywhere.
And that most people are good.
And that if you put your trust in people usually it turns out good (laughs).
And travelling for me, being in a different place every day, not knowing where you can be is exciting.
What are your future plans ?
Stay alive as long as possible, which means staying on the boat.
I'd like to get to Istanbul in a couple of years and then, if Odessa (in Ukraine) is still there i would like to see that.
And then after that I would do the reverse, keeping the land on the right hand side.
Which message would you like to spread on this planet?
Do the right thing! It's obvious. Walk along the beach, pick up the plastic.
Do not leave trash in nature, if someone did, pick it up.
You don't need stuff what you need is time.
See as many sunrises as you can!
And.. Be kind!
